OK, i'm not really a big opera fan but i know some people are, or might be curious. in any case, i saw the live afternoon performance of I Puritani earlier this month in Denver on the big screen and it was really amazing. the HD picture and sound were perfect and i thought it was better than being there in person (plus you can eat snacks and not have to dress up)!
honestly, the only reason i went (or would go again) is that my brother is in the chorus. i've been to see him in two live Met performances and i promptly nodded off with both. this was different, though! there were closeups of the singers, behind the scenes commentary, live interviews, and most of all a swooping camera that took in everything from the orchestra to the performers backstage to even my brother, who was easy to pick out this time even though he was wearing a weird pilgrim outfit and horrible wig! the live broadcasts are only in selected cities (there's a link below to the info page) but it's worth checking out if you're at all interested and maybe you've already seen everything that's playing.
