Jungle Thrillers, Vol. 1  Production Year

the above (Jungle  Thrillers) is the closest i can come to finding this movie on Spout. i watched it again this weekend and i had forgotten how much i love it! it is SO hilariously bad. it's Ed Wood-like cheesy but it's more than that. maybe it's the strange dragon dance by the women and (i think) a high priestess, or maybe it's the scene underwater where the heroine wrestles a very fake alligator. whatever, it's in a class all it's own. it even has a catfight and ape men. it's hard to find but is highly recommended for all lovers of B-movies!

on a personal note: this movie has always been "dear to my heart" since because of it my husband gave me the nickname of Wonga several years ago (technically i guess it should be Wongo).

filmThe 29th Starz Denver Film Festival, produced by the Denver Film Society, rolls out the red carpet November 9-19, 2006. This year's festival features a salute to Canadian cinema and will screen over 200 films with 20 premieres. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 27, and are available online at denverfilm.org and at the Festival Box Office at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli.

i've heard that Tim Robbins, Anthony Minghella, and David Straithairn will be coming. films i've heard rumored so far are Volver, Breaking And Entering, the Tenacious D movie, Rescue Dawn, and Big Parade (silent). i really want to go for the whole week but we'll probably only make it for a long weekend.

ok, i finally watched this all the way through. it was great but i have no idea why it's rated R. i'm sure i watched the original version but i don't remember any explicit sex scenes or even swearing?

    Sex Is Comedy  (2002)

    Duane Hopwood  (2004)

    The Groomsmen  (2006)

it was raining this weekend so i had a movie day (always a good day)!

THE GROOMSMEN - i had a DVD screener and was looking forward to this. i have loved other movies by Ed Burns and i thought this was OK but not great. maybe i'm just tired of movies where guys are afraid to get married and need to grow up! i liked the dialogue and the music was good. great all-star cast but i thought Jay Mohr stood out. i give it 3 out of 5 stars.

DUANE HOPWOOD - i loved this "little gem" of a movie. it seemed real and not sentimental for the subject matter. it was more humorous than i would have thought. i'm not a big David Schwimmer fan but he was really good here. i give it 4 out of 5 stars.

SEX IS COMEDY - french film about a woman director making a movie and trying to film a difficult sex scene. i didn't get that she and the lead actor were lovers but whatever! it was fun trying to figure out if she was manipulating her actors or really was whacko. i give it 4 out of 5 stars.

    The Last Kiss  (2006)

i didn't have very high expectations and so was pleasantly surprised by The Last Kiss. it wasn't great but there was enough there to make it entertaining. the music was wonderful and really added to what was happening on-screen. the writing i thought was above average. it wasn't completely predictable or sentimental, although the ending was a little contrived. the four male friends reminded me of the guys from "Diner" who had more of a connection to each other than anyone else and were having a little trouble moving on to adulthood. ditto here, although in no way as authentic. although i liked Rachel Bilson, i thought the character and storyline of the college girl seemed somewhat unrealistic. the secondary storyline with the parents i thought needed more detail but they had some wonderful scenes. i give it 3-1/2 out of 5 stars and i will definitely look for the soundtrack!
