TO END ALL WARS

Under discussion:

To End All Wars  (2001)

I can't think of a single war-themed movie that could be equally applauded by opposite ends of a very sensitive spectrum.  Whether you support any and all military action by your native country or you oppose any and all military action -- this movie is for you.  It's mission is not to convince you that WWII action was proper or a waste of time, but focuses on individuals facing horrific situations.  And not just the POWs -- the Japanese soldiers running the camp are not 2-dimensional, paper targets.

I've heard some complain about the constant emotional tug, but it's not a cheap gag to woo viewers -- To End All Wars is based on actual events documented by a survivor of the POW camp.  It's an incredible story of forgiveness, impossible odds, and an evaluation of a person's place in this world.

Rent it or buy... but definitely watch it!

Awards you might not know it received include:

2003Showcase selection, Cinema for Peace, Cannes Film Festival
2002Grand Prize Best Picture and Crystal Heart Award, Heartland Film Festival
2002Commander in Chief Medal of Service, Honor & Pride, Veterans of Foreign Wars
