Season 5 is by far the weakest link of the X-Files so far. Keep in mind, I'm only halfway through the DVDs, but 5 let me down. The stand-alone episodes for the most part aren't very compelling, spooky, mysterious, ... [insert any other free association word w/X-Files].
I'm told that the feature length movie that bridges Seasons 5 and 6 will pump me up again. Further, the production value increased substantially in 6 because budgets were suddenly larger and filming moved from Canada to the US.
But, the finale did serve its role of cliffhanger effectively. A young boy may be the link between humans and aliens, Cig Man is back, the Syndicate wants the young boy, Kan't-Kill-Me Krycek is back, the Lone Gunmen help out... in short, I see the momentum picking up.
