300
9/10
Glancing at some other reviews, I see the common thread of "watch it for the style, but not for anything else." What about the underlying theme of the movie - that freedom is not free? People seem timid to talk about taking to arms because they don't want to be labeled a dumb Republican who is gunning for wars anywhere and everywhere. I'm glad George Washington didn't pussyfoot around when it came to protecting his country's freedom.
Now for those of you who enjoyed 300, were you pumping your fist at the closing minutes of the film when the speech ended and you knew what would happen next if the movie was another 60 minutes? Man, what a great movie!

I don't think the Spartans were very free, not the way we think of freedom. They were more like the Japanese just before WW II. You walked the line in Sparta or you were screwed. Plus, they beat up and conquered plenty of their neighbors.
But I liked 300 anyway. Except for watching McNulty (if you watch The Wire) act like a scumbag when everybody knows how cool he really is.

Well just because a movie has a potentially powerful theme, doesn't mean that it was executed properly. I think they tried to ride on that theme pretty heavily but some of the acting and plot just couldn't hold it up.
