Windbreaker!

don't read the DVD case, just watch it

Under discussion:

Memento  (2001)

Unknown  (2006)

And don't let the DVD menu play, either!  Just hit the farging play button.

I have no idea how Unknown ended up in my Blockbuster queue -- automatically generated recommendation, maybe.  It was very good.  Not "own it" very good, but "rent it" very good.  You'll see what I mean when the final credits roll.

Read on if you don't mind spoilerific thoughts...

What worked -->  The premise of some guys waking up in a locked warehouse, some tied up, all badly beat up, and all with memory loss was interesting.  Throw in some great actors who really got into it:  Jesus Caviezel, Cypher Pantoliano, Metrosexual Kinnear, and the dude who played Assistant Marconi Operator Harold Bride in Titanic.  Even great stories can be executed with the quality of a made-for-TNT quality, but these guys had me from the start.

What kept it from being great -->  Sort of like my feeling at the end of Illusionist.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but felt like I'd be fine if I never saw the movie again.  Don't let people tell you Unknown is as good as Memento -- it's not close.  Memento is a frickin onion.

Even though I won't buy it, I'll recommend it to everyone I know (except my wife). I loved the ending.  Ok, I'm off to go through my Steven Seagal archives.
