I completely agree with a reviewer who said "this movie was mistakenly marketed as another flick from that guy who did Hero." It's a great movie on its own -- it doesn't need Hero to advertise for it. Other than that, I knew nothing about Curse of the Golden Flower going in. Man, it's eye candy. And it's definitely Asian cinema! Don't pick this up thinking it's L.A. kung fu with Chinese looking dudes - it's a drama about a Chinese royal family. A family that is dysfunctional to say the least.
It earn the R rating for violence in the final 30 minutes. Hoo boy!
