Lost in Predictability

Under discussion:

"Kevin" (Macaulay Culkin) is back, but this time he's got a lot more room to play around in against the bumbling "Wet Thieves" (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) -- New York City. In addition, he has to deal with the nosy, but well-meaning staff of a hotel he ("Kevin") saw advertised during a game show.

Now "Kein" hasn't got his own skin to save, but a toy story he visits in his adventures in the "Big Apple."

This has got to be one of the most predictable movies I have ever seen. The jokes barely produced a laugh from me, and I knew what sight gags were coming as they were being set-up on screen. Maybe if we saw "Kevin" formulating a plan and not setting up his booby traps, the movie may have been funnier to me.

There is very little character development. I haven't seen the first movie, so I don't know how much the characters from that movie were developed in comparison to this film. New characters who help the plot move along also have little development.

There are no real special effects in this movie, but of what there are, they are on the cheap side. You can tell when there is a stunt double, as well as when a performer is on a wire.

Performances from the majority of the cast was quite weak in my opinion. Culkin's performance was lackluster at best. The script is probably to blame.

This movie may have been better if I saw the first film. I only watched it because it was recommended by Yahoo Movies based on the movies I rated on that site.

"Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" is still a cute movie, but it's not all that funny to me. If you want to see it, rent it as a second choice.
