Double the Pleasure

Everything you could want in a Romantic Comedy and more with the double plot. Both stories were well developed and when the movie ended, I found myself hoping for a sequal. This is one of the few movies that I have bought.

A Bizarre Mess

If there is a plot, it takes so many leaps that it is hard to follow. Jim Carrey does not play a believable character... he needs to stick to comedy. To cap off a lousy movie, the feel good ending was totally out of character. If you see this one in the video store... hiss and walk away.

Airplane Crashed & Burned!

This movie was obviously intended to be a laugh-a-minute spoof like Airplane... but came off as stupid and boring. The few laughs did not make up for the time lost.

While the actors were reasonable, the script and direction sucked so bad the movie never had a chance. I will try to remember the name of the director, Jim Abrahams, so as to avoid such regurgitation again.

Captured... The Spirit of the Artic Tundra

This is a must see film that captures first the arrogance of a haughty flyboy who learns respect for the frozen north tundra and reverence for the people who live there… through the graceful kindness of a young but very sick native girl.

Director Charles Martin Smith succeeded in taking me into spirit of a vast arctic region that is at one moment incredibly beautiful and the next insanely unforgiving. I especially appreciate the insight into the lives of the hearty, yet peaceful Inuit locals.

Be sure to watch the “Making of the Movie” flick after the seeing main feature… it will give you an intense appreciation for the truly harsh conditions, excellent casting and superb directing needed to make this film an evening well spent.

Gotta Get You Into My Life...

To truly enjoy and understand this film, you need to be a Beatles music fan and it helps to be a child of the Beatles era... so naturally, I loved it. My 16 year old son who is also a Beatles music fan also loved it. However, my wife walked out of the theater commenting that she did not get it... since to her, a beatle is something to step on.

Contrary to the synopsis above... the movie is about putting a story to Beatles music, nothing more... and of course the music was about love and later "anti-war protests, rock and roll revolution, non-sense and mind-expanding psychedelia of the 1960s". Director Julie Taymor did an excellent job of threading a movie around the Beatles music. I loved the movie and plan to buy the dvd.
