Here is one of the best films for 2006. Bloody Head shots and gratuitous usage of "***" a side. This film keeps you on the edge of your seat. Waiting to see who finds who first. No wait, who gets whacked next, or wait, was that a revenge killing or was he part of this charade too? The sex seen just seemed like the typical oh wait, a Rated R film cannot be R without one. Mostly this was due to character development between the two characters. My head is still reeling from the jump of I'm your paitent and now friend to lets jump in bed together even though your moving in with someone else. The film would have been better by just skipping this unrealistic love triangle.
Leonardo DiCaprio put in a great performance. One of his best since "What's eating Gilbert Grape." I'm usually fond of Mark Wahberg's performances, but this one seems a little pushed from him and was more a supportive than primary role. Matt Damon has again put a performance that is on par with his Borne Identity. Alec Baldwin when will he stop making films? Other than Hunt for Red October, I haven't liked him. He's so whiney that it's no wonder he isn't married anymore. Martin Sheen was on par with the rest of the cast. That brings us to Jack. Good ole Jack Nicholson. Short of growing tired of his style, (Style similar to Sylvester Stallone but more palatable for the masses. Stallone is to the bad a$$ what Nicholson is to the crazy guy) he is still a force to be reckoned with. This is a typical movie you come to expect from Martin Scorsese.
Anyways, back to this film. As with any movie, there are plot disturbances and imbalances that can be picked apart. But if you want a film that you can loose time in, be intrigued, and generally be entertained then go see this movie. Rather you wait for dvd or want the movie experience, it is a must see for those Crime Drama, Good Cop vs Bad Cop, and Mob film lovers.
