    Film Name  Production Year

    Posle Smerti  (1915)

    After Death  (1915)

    The Dying Swan  (1916)

    Posle smerti (After Death)

Another one of three films contained on the DVD "Mad Love: The Films of Evgenii Bauer" that also contains the film The Dying Swan which is on my movie year countdown round #2.

You can read my blog about Twilight of a Woman's Soul to get some of my ideas about these films.  After Death is actually probably my favorite one, although choosing a favorite may have been a bit of an arbitrary choice.  All of these films deal with similar themes and structures.  One person falls in love with a second person.  That second person rejects the love of the first person.  Then that second person realizes later that they actually do love the first person.  Then they try to connect back with the first person in any way they can.  In After Death, the first person has actually died.  So the second person is actually fighting the boundaries of this world and the spiritual world to reconnect.  Of course he must die himself to enter that world.  Sorry if I gave away the plot, but it's more the imagery that's interesting than the plot.  And only some of it.
