    Blind Husbands  (1919)

This blog entry is part of my “movie year countdown”.  To read more about that check out my first Spout filmblog entry.

    Blind Husbands

After over two years, I have finally made it to the end of my first movie year countdown list.  Not that I would expect anyone else to care if you happen to be reading this, but I consider it a personal end to an era.  I have countless new ideas for personal movie watching lists though, so it doesn't look like there will be an end to my obsession.

So how did this first round end?  With Blind Husbands.  Erich von Stroheim's debut film was apparently a huge success at the time.  To me it seems a bit dated.  The style of text in the intertitles was one of the strangest parts.  Lots of ellipses and broken language that I guess was supposed to be poetic?

Stroheim was a strange character.  On camera and behind it from the stories I've heard.  The special features of this disc tells some interesting stories about how he forced his way into getting this film made by the studios.  And also an interesting story about how he was set to remake it many years later only to be fired the first day of shooting due to his absurd demands.
