Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary
I respect Guy Maddin (even though I've seen very few of his films) for his love of old and used but beautiful films, and also for his vocabulary and eloquence in describing things based on what I've heard in his interviews and film commentaries. But this film was a total bore to me. I was interested in seeing different versions of the Dracula story, but I didn't realize at first that this was a ballet version. Sorry, this may be a well done ballet, but ballet in general just is not captivating to me. Maddin even mentions on this special features that this was a rare project that he did not come up with himself. He was asked to do it and had little interest at first. I guess he found some fascination, but his enthusiasm didn't come through enough to interest me. Some of the sets seemed cool at least, but the filming style was a bit too ragged and jarring to me to even enjoy that either.
