    Election Day  (2007)

    Election Day

My girlfriend works with one of the producers on this movie, so she brought me to see it at the Gene Siskel Film Center.  It was the first time I'd ever been there and was pretty neat.  Lots of awesome old film posters on the wall.  I really should go see stuff there more often.

This film follows people in what must be at least a dozen different cities around the world all on the same day, Election Day 2004.  You get to see a pretty good cross section of American society and how they feel about and are affected by the elections.

There are enough different types of people and situation to keep it interesting.  Only a few shots seem out of place or unnecessary to the main flow of the film.

Those of us in Chicago should find it especially amusing.  The Republican poll watch is a highly amusing personality in a town known for supporting the Democratic party and often having a lot of corruption including in the election process.

It's pretty amazing to think about the fact that there must have been a totally separate full crew for every single location as they all had to be filming in different places at the exact same time.  Making this film must have been the same sensation as the voters.  People plan so much for just one big day and then it all happens at once.  And then afterwards you look back and see what you got and try to piece it all together.
