    Decoys 2: Alien Seduction

Ok, this is another one I watched at the random horror movie marathon at a friend's house on Halloween.  There's really no point in even mentioning anything about this movie.  Actually I'm even embarassed to post anything about it, but I've become anal about posting a blog for every movie I've seen lately.

It's essentially stupid softcore porn with nasty extraterrestrials.  Maybe one or two slightly amusing parts, but probably only because we were drunk and making fun of it when watching it.

Watched this one on Halloween night at a friends house.  He has a day long marathon of different horror movies every Halloween.  Usually ones he has never seen before.  I caught a couple of them.

I went last year as well, and I'd say this is probably the best one I've seen so far.  I'm not usually a huge fan of just random low budget horror movies.  I think if you just select one randomly from the gigantic pool, the chances are I am going to find it crappy and boring.

However I had more fun with this one that I had expected.  It's still nothing astounding, but it's a good one to watch with a group of friends.

In the vein of Dawn of the Dead, there are just plain amusing ways of people getting killed and devoured by zombie/vampire/demon-like creatures.  Directed by Mario Bava's son Lamberto as well.

Makes amusing use of various unrelated items of badass quality such as samurai swords and motorcycles.  And there is also a crashing helicopter that comes out of nowhere.  I hope you don't consider that a spoiler, but it really had nothing to do with the plot.  Again, it's amusing if you weren't expecting much to begin with.

Aru eiga-kantoku no shogai (Kenji Mizoguchi: The Life of a Film Director)

Again there's no Spout link for this movie.  I saw it on the DVD for Ugetsu monogatari.  The documentary was made by another famous Japanese director, Kaneto Shindô.

Although I think Ugetsu is perfect, it's the only Mizoguchi film I've seen.  And the strange Japanese polite yet intrusive interview style was interesting but also tedious after a while.  Probably if I had seen more of his films as a reference for what they were referring to most of the time, I would have rated it better.  Maybe it's not too fair, but I gave it a rather average rating.

    Godzilla, King of the Monsters

So this is the American version of the original Godzilla movie.  Not necessarily a better version, but the one that more people have probably seen.  And the version that was spread across most of the world to start the Godzilla/Giant Monster craze.

Basically they just filmed a few new scenes with Raymond Burr and some small, cheap sets and edited them in.  The commentary indicates how deftly the footage was inserted, but that's how I felt.  Maybe because I had already just watched the original version, but I don't see how anyone could be fooled to think that the Raymond Burr stuff was somehow part of the original film.  Maybe I would have felt different if I had grown up with these films.

Favorite Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki directs a movie set in England staring famous French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud.

The plot is great, but somehow seems contrived.  Maybe it wouldn't have been so much in 1990.  But it's not a detriment.  Even though I felt like many times I was ahead of the plot and knew exactly where it was going, I was so happy when it got there.  Maybe this is my kind of genre film.  For instance when the protagonist gets laid off and receives a crappy watch as the only thank you for so many years of work.  A situation like that has been played out countless times in film, but it's still perfect for Kaurismäki and his style and mood.  I expect certain things from Kaurismäki now, and I am excited when I get them.

I read one review that Margi Clarke for ruining this movie.  Although I still am completely in love with the film, I do think a different casting choice might have made it even better.  Although that would be an amazing feat considering how great it is already.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters

If you are a fan of the TV show, it would be hard to not enjoy the movie.  It's essentially an hour and a half long version of the show as you would probably expect.  And also as I had expected, the movie is not quite as enjoyable as just watching the show because everything about the show was created to take advantage of the fact that each episode is only like eleven minutes long.  The point of the show is that any plot only has that long before it must completely disintegrate.  Usually a lot sooner, or else a plot hardly even develops at all.

The movie tries to create a plot, explaining the origins of the main characters.  Of course they totally fool around with the plot and don't take it too seriously, nonetheless they do hold on to it.  And I think trying to hold on to a plot that long with these characters can be a bit tiring.  It's really only a quibble in comparison to the show which is so fantastic though.

The movie did bring me to tears from laughing several times though.  The very beginning of the movie with the metal band junk food characters is the funniest thing in the movie, and probably one of the funniest things in any movie anywhere.
