Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

Pretty much the same as it's predecessor.

Absolutely stunning as a visual feast.  The animation is incredibly detailed.  And the whole design draws you in.

But like the original it also suffers from the rare phenomenon of a movie actually being too short.  There seem to be so many ideas packed into this movie and not enough time to explore them all.  Sometimes that can be a good thing, not overexplaining anything and keeping you thinking.  But as for these movies it's a bit frustrating.  This might be an indication that I should check out the series instead where I'm sure there's a lot more time to flesh things out.

Also there's a scene where I thought the DVD was screwed up or something.  It seemed like I was watching the exact same sequence over again.  I'm still not exactly sure what they were trying to say there.  I have an idea, but it wasn't too effective.  Seemed like a cheap way to reuse animation.

I also turned to the DVD commentary for some possible explinations, but it was totally worthless.  Just people nitpicking about little animation details that no one else would have noticed, or talking about people we don't know.

Well enough bitching.  It's still a fun movie.  If you liked the first one, check it out for sure.

    Rating: 8/10
