Superman Returns

I never intended to watch this movie.  I was never much of a fan of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies.  Always thought they were stuck between being sincere and corny.  Should have pushed the corn 100% like Adam West with Batman in my opinion.

I do remember liking that Lois and Clark show though.  Maybe because my mom always watched it.

Anyways, my roommate rented this from Netflix and I was bored.  I think I may have watched this with Adam as well.  I think all three of us saw it together.  It's hard to remember.  The event was less than spectacular.

It felt like there was absolutely nothing new here.  And even the best of the old stuff was missing.  The whole story of Superman and how he came to be.  I've seen all that in every Superman production so far.  And he hardly ever even uses his different powers in exciting ways.  The lead actor seemed like he was just trying to safely emulate Christopher Reeve.  Since I never liked his portrayal in the first place I wasn't too keen on that.

Uh I could bitch more about it, but like I said I can't even remember it too much more.  I do know that Gene Hackman made a more amusing Lex Luthor to me than Kevin Spacey.  And as my friend Zoran commented on in regards to the completely unbelievable plot and villain scheme "COME ON, WHY WOULD ANYONE PAY TO LIVE ON A GIANT CALICIUM DEPOSIT?"

It's a series-reboot; like Mark Day says about the upcoming STAR TREK reboot, "it's like with Batman Begins ... a new realization of the Dark Knight, where they took him from being a cheesy, rubber-nippled Happy Meal toy, and turned him into the VERY ESSENCE of the Dark Knight ... a slightly-scarier Happy Meal toy."
