Huh?
So I thought that Casino Royale was supposed to be a return to a "gritty, realistic James Bond." I watched the trailer and it looked like a whole bunch of somewhat ridiculous and cheesy action. There's nothing wrong with this of course...it's what makes so many of the Bonds so great. But I was looking forward to a real gritty Bond and a turn away from the absolute ridiculousness of Die Another Day. I don't think the producers of Bond could help themselves though. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

I liked it for two reasons. 1) Daniel Craig is a great Bond. As soon as I saw Layer Cake, I knew he'd be great as Bond. 2) They've smartly re-booted the series, so they can take their time with defining his character more. There's no "Q" in the movie, therefore no gadgets (well, there is a car and it's got one or two, but it's not the same).
As for it being "gritty", I don't know who's calling it that, but with sort-of hack director Martin Campbell, you're getting a pretty over-polished production.
I'm hoping that future installments bring abord some more A-list directors. Think of a James Cameron Bond film. Steven Soderberg. Spielberg. Now those would be real events (even though it'll never happen).

Just saw this last night and I gotta agree with Brad, Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery. Bond most definitely has more of an edge than I have seen him with before. Kinda reminds me of the difference between the Batman series of films and Batman Returns. I really enjoyed seeing a bit of a conflicted Bond...although would have loved it if it was taken further.

I wouldn't call it gritty, but they did leave the rediculous over the top inspector gadget theme behind. Definitly a return to what Bond should be. Craig is much better than Brosnan. I think you'll like it.

I think maybe you were proven wrong. Just got back from watching it Friday night and I was blown away. It's been a long time since a Bond film has been this good. Can't wait to hear what you thought. BTW, The complete soundtrack is only available through i-tunes. Although the single is a seperate cost. Daniel Craig has my vote for best bond since Connery.
