One of Gene Autry's earliest westerns (his second in 1939). Gene sings songs that he had recorded earlier and starred on of the best "sidekicks" in Smiley Burnett who went to hollywood at the same time as Gene.
Smiley had played in a band for Gene before the Hollywood days. Smiley was perhaps the best sidekick after George "Gabby" Hayes who also starred in a couple of Gene's movies . Gabby later joined up and coming western western star Roy Rogers.
gene made two movies in in 1934 starring Ken Maynard. His first starring picture was The Phantom Empire, a Mascot serial in 1935. Following that Gene began his into B-western history; his first being Tumbling Tumbleweeds, also in 1935. His last picture was Last of the Pony Riders in 1953.
