Use of real wolves = good. Adaptation from book to movie = TERRIBLE. Setting of movie = kinda cool. As a movie it was... eh. The book deserves a REAL adaptation though. The movie destroyed everything that was good about the book (teen sexuality and heartbreak)... probably because an accurate portrayal of teen sexuality (as in the book) would be too taboo for a movie.

PARK was an unexpected little thing that I just rented because Melanie Lynskey was in it. I wasn't expecting much but ended up with a big smile on my face. It was a really cute feel good movie that manages to make several characters worth watching.

For vampires with a limited supply of food (people) ... they sure wasted a lot of blood just dragging people around and being sloppy.

Metaphor

This series is an awesome (and blatant) metaphor for the battle for civil liberties for all. Its most obvious suggestion in this series is that vampires = LGBT members of society. (Though most interviews mention race over sexual orienation.) From its opening credits it shows us a church sign saying "God Hates Fangs" (obviously echoing Fred Phelps and his "God Hates Fags" signs) and then tells us the story of vampires as they "Come Out of the Coffin." True Blood is a great watch as the characters come to terms with there Vampirophobia and learn lessons along the way. (But don't read it as a straight metaphor... remember we ARE watching a show about vampires so yes they do drink blood and kill people.)

Semi-haunting. In other hands it could have been "Heavenly Creatures" but it is still mysterious. Yet it also seems to be one of those movies where the lesbians off themselves in the end.

The Tracey Review

If you're looking for a point A to point B, straight forward Hollywood-style movie - do NOT rent this movie. But if you're in the mood for something different, I found this movie amazing to watch!! Kudos to the editors. This movie has more in common with something like Timecode than Juno. OK so the acting/dialogue isn't always believable, but it's good. Is there a resolution? I'm not sure but really this movie belongs in a modern art gallery more than in a theater.

Phelps crew speak for themselves

While appearing at first like an unbiased documentery it becomes clearer and clearer that you just have to let the Phelps clan speak for themselves. The more they talk - the crazier they sound. The crazier they sound - the more the whole "gays are evil" belief just sounds crazy along with it!

So Cheers to the doc makers - they let the crazy Westboro Church picketers stick their own foots in their own mouths.

Rent City Slickers

This movie is a bad version of City Slickers on motorcycles. They're not even learning to ride motorcycles... they already know how... they just go on vacation and run out of gas. And I'm really supposed to buy that two of the characters fall madly in love over the course of approximately 3 hours real people time? "Hey John, why don't we hang out this weekend and act in a lame movie.. just for the fun of it?" "OK Tim... sounds like a blast." That's about as much thought as was apparently put in the screenplay.

Oh and I've put this in the "Gay" list because there is one gay character in it... but he's in it for the jokes. Boo. Haven't we grown past that?

Thankfully this new installment made up for the suckiness that was Ocean's Twelve. ("Oh Julia Roberts, you look just like Julia Roberts!" That was... DUMB.) This one gets you back to the basics and while it can't beat the first one it at least comes in as decent sequel.
