    Infamous  (2006)

I saw and loved INFAMOUS but reserved my final judgement until I finally watched CAPOTE.  Capote was good... but it is UNFAIR UNFAIR UNFAIR.  INFAMOUS is ten times the movie Capote was!  I watched Infamous and it was on my mind for days... it was so touching... it had so much heart and love.  Capote was an empty shell.  Capote hinted at love while Infamous showed you why we should love Truman, why we should love Nell Harper Lee and why we should feel heartbroken when Perry died!  To sum it up ... Capote watered down all of it's gay content.  Infamous is where the love is.

  • Hey where's the gay?

    In a Dark Place  (2007)

I rented this movie this evening led on by the title and Leelee Sobieski but when I got it home I realized... "Damnit!  I know how this ends!"  If you've read "The Turn of the Screw" (which this is an adaptation of) or seen "The Innocents" ... then you know how this story goes.  This version takes place in modern times so the concept of a governess... seems a little odd.  The film does use great color schemes to represent the characters and the shots are beautiful but while Leelee plays "disturbed" pretty wonderfully... she (or the script) gives a little too much away in the beginning.  It didn't quite sell it's big finish ... but if you don't already know the story you might be surprised.  Also... random lesbianism.  Did I miss that subtext in the tale?  It has been a while since I read it. My feelings are ... skip this and rent "The Innocents" with Deborah Kerr if you can find it.  But Leelee is worth watching.
