I couldn't believe it.
A boring Sir Larry performance? Or a boring Shakespeare play? How could either be possible? Yet it was so. I couldn't stay interested in either the story or how it was performed and literally nodded off. So I was quite skeptical about the buzz Kenneth Branagh's version was getting years later. Thank gods I gave Branagh a chance--thoroughly loved his rendition. Hearing his St. Crispin's Day speech made me want to jump up and follow Harry into battle. Though I still say Henry the Fifth's reason for going to war (according to Shakespeare) was rather thin.

I think Kenneth Branagh has a genius for making Shakespeare accessible. It is difficult to put your finger on what he does sometimes, but you know it works. I was impressed with his version of Love's Labours Lost where he took a play that is not very good, threw out half of it, created a fun and giddy experience.
