  • Stephen King's The Mist

Frank Darabont is well known for his excellent Stephen King's adaptions The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption and so the expectations regarding his newest King project were very high.

The movie had the look and feel of a B-Movie from the 80s (except for the cell phones), nevertheless I was very pleased with it. The story is almost identical to the original and focuses on the tensions which erupt in the supermarket between the realists and the a steadily growing group of religious fanatics. The monsters are more often than not vague shadows in the mist, which give them an especially surreal feeling. The biggest change to the original was the ending. At first I thought: "Shoot, not another happy ending", but on closer reflection I realized that this ending was much harder and more brutal than the original.

All in all a very good Stephen King adaption, which works good as a suspenseful horror movie as well as a study of human behavior under stress.

  • Enchanted by a wonderful movie :)

    Enchanted  (2007)

Enchanted was the state I left the cinema yesterday after seeing the movie of the same name ;).

This is one of the kitschiest movies I've seen in a while, but the story is told in such an honest and innocent way, that I didn't mind. In addition it doesn't take itself or the Disney canon too seriously and is riddled with hilarious scenes.
Amy Adams deserves a special mention for her perfect portrayal of the innocent girl from a fairy tale which has to come to grips with the harsh reality we all live in.

If you can bear the kitsch, you shouldn't miss this feel-good movie! :)

  • Wes Anderson did it again

The Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic rank very high amongst my favorite movies and so it was clear I had to see The Darjeeling Limited as well.
I wasn't disappointed, Wes Anderson again manages to portray a dysfunctional family with a lot of congeniality and humor. Some of the best parts of the movie get along without words or action, just quiet scenes where one can observe the different characters and their reactions, proving again that images have the power to carry thousands of words.
In my humble opinion this is one of the best movies of the year, and you shouldn't miss it!
