Given these new integrated discussion threads on Spout, I won't wax wordy like I do usually in my reviews, since I started a group discussion in the fantasy group. Please contribute.
I will add that this film really suffered from plain bad storytelling, which is unusual even for a comic book film. I will say that I was annoyed by how disappointed I was.
I will say this: in my patented rating system, I think I have to give this film a 5 (for utterly mediocre). That's kind of scathing, especially since this is a fantasy film, and I love them, but the film just wasn't good to me. X-Men 3 had some redeeming characteristics to it. This film had far fewer, like one or two or three.
I will probably end up buying it, though, because I hate having incomplete sets of movies. The only exception I made was for the Superman movies, because three and four were really that bad, and Superman Returns was a fitting substitution.
I honestly hope a fourth gets made only for the sake of giving Spidey his due. This entry was mishandled and nothing compared to its predecessors.
