    Speed Racer  (2008)

Visually, there's no denying that the Wachowski's were on to something. The movie was a smorgasbord of colors. In fact, I think they might have even invented some new colors for it. But I've seen critics review this movie who figured out one reason it didn't do so well at the box office. The Wachowskis do experimental films on a big budget. They aren't going to make back the money that they spend on the film. I also don't know that people really gave it a chance. They automatically assumed since it was a live-action anime series it'd be bad. Heck, I thought so too. Especially as a Speed Racer fan. But really they pulled it off. It was rather true to the series. Cheesy? Yeah. But so was the original series. My biggest disappointment was the fact that they only wore the original costumes for a short period of time. And that they added the Mach 6. But I think the cast was fantastic, they all did a great job. Especially John Goodman as Pops Racer. He is Pops. And I loved the homages to the original series including the reference to the original opening and the voice actors cameos.

The other big mistake? It was a bit long. Especially for children. I'm not even sure who they were targeting in the movie. I'm almost lead to believe that Speed Racer was on the edge between adults who liked the series and kids. Which could be another mistake on their part.

But all and all, I definitely recommend it to people. I've had several friends who watched it and loved it. But like me, they all enjoy anime. So that might be a big factor in it.  For the flaws it has, I feel like the movie itself manages to redeem itself and I hope they can find the money to make a sequel.

Here's the thing, if you're like me, then there's a chance that you might enjoy bad movies. Not necessarily because you think they're good. Oh no. Because there's a certain comedic appeal there. If that's you, then yes. See this movie. Especially for Corey Haim's performance. I mean, does Interview With a Vampire even bring up the touchy subject of vampire BO? No. Twilight? Maybe, I haven't seen it yet. Don't rent it expecting Lost Boys. And don't rent it expecting much. We all know the plot isn't groundbreaking Oscar material. The other cast members aren't really famous and it shows. No offense to them, I can't do much better. But that's why I watch movies. Not much emotion shown at all. Cinematography isn't bad though. Neither is the soundtrack. Go in expecting to see a B horror movie, and you might not be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, I wasn't expecting much out of Will Ferrell because I normally see his movies to see stupid comedies but he really did pull off the role of Harold well. The story was not only an original screenplay which you don't see much, but it was good. I love how everything and everyone was connected to each other and I actually felt for the characters for once. I'm not an emotional person either. Great dialogue, great acting, great cinematography. I loved the special effects from Harold's watch, they were simple but not the usual effects you see every day. Yeah. I definitely think people should watch it.

First of all, I'm a fan of the books. So that may make a difference. But this trilogy is fantastic. It may be a little slow at times. Especially in the second movie which was my least favorite because of the Ents. But all of the actors did a great job not to mention the gorgeous cinematography which I could look at all day. Everytime I watch this I find something new. Whether it's a camera angle I didn't notice, or a different facial expression.

Definitely a must see for fantasy fans. Even without Tom Bombadil.
