    Bullitt  (1968)

i like this movie. it starts off with a sweet credits beginning that was probably ahead of its time. and that's what this movie is made up of. scenes way ahead of their time. the pacing is almost real time in every scene, namely real-life pauses and dialogue. the car chase scene was worth it, even if it doesn't compare enough to today's standards. it still is very original and keeps with the originality of this movie. the on-foot chase at the end is really dragged out however, almost like in Heat, but i like the Heat foot race better. Steve McQueen IS COOL. i won't take that away from him any day. i just wish i would've started a Steve McQueen following sooner. He's just great to watch, even if you don't like the scene. i own this movie, but i don't know if i will keep it, because it is long and dragged out at times, but it is cool. so i might keep it just to know i have that in my bag o tricks.

  • pretty good for the most part

action-pretty good, afterlife (davey jones' locker)-a little long, comedy-spot on; the side pirate duo had way more camera time, as did the Jack the monkey. I like the duo more because of the dialogue. there are some memorable scenes in this chapter, but the story line confused and lost me at some parts. maybe i started to stare a little, but characters joined up with each other in every possible combo so much so that the movie lost me for a while.
it ended good and i didn't feel jipped at all coming out.
it's more of a "hard PG13" without any bad language, so not as much of a family film as you'd predict. the violence is good but not for a well-parented kid. i am not a child, so i "loved" all the violence and action. there were a lot of spectacular visuals that put me at awe.

300, however, was better. i just watched that again too.

this has to be one of the most boring movies i've ever seen. you think, hey, mel gibson's in this one! but he's barely in it as much as you'd expect. jovovich and davies are bland, acting almost retarded (artsy? whatever). jimmy smits is in this movie. jimmy smits.
don't watch this waste of time, the music will put you to sleep, and so will the acting. i finished this movie and was glad that it was just a dollar rental and not a blind buy.
also, i think bono was one of the producers. ya got me.

    Almost Heroes  (1998)

i ended up loving this movie. it's hard not to when the dvd menu lasts a minute and goes right back into the movie. chris farley is at his best, i think, in a style that only he can perfect. I don't know why but almost everything in this movie makes me laugh. it shouldn't be that funny. i've seen over twenty times now since i've owned it. Almost Heroes is a sleeper hit that was way before its time. the humor would fit in with a lot of today's cult/smart humor, along with farley's own brand of slapstick and farleyness.

    The Outsiders  (1983)

this is the movie my friends and I watched the most in high school. we'd fall asleep to it, have it in the background, or just watch it as a default. We still quote, or misquote it, and it still ranks up there as one of my faves. BE FOREWARNED: The 2-Disc Colletor's Director's Cut that came out in 05 or 06 was awful and ruins the movie. Coppola adds crappy surfer music throughout, adds unnecessary scenes that take you out of the movie, and has the cast reunite for a commentary (which is possibly the worst commentary ever, washed up actors reliving the glory days). BUY THE OLD VERSION DVD, if you get it, that's the one that hits home.

  • why would anyone love this?

    The Minus Man  (1999)

the only reason i can fathom is because it's just Owen Wilson pondering the whole movie. Besides that, it's boring, kinda creepy, doesn't make any sense, and doesn't accomplish anything other than making my Owen Wilson collection bigger. He is the only reason to own this. And the only reason The Minus Man is kinda creepy is because Sheryl Crow is in it. She's a foot.

  • not that good

the only reason i watch this movie is because the Wilson brothers have a cameo in it as Orville and Wilbur Wright. Other than that, Steve Coogan is decent, Jackie Chan is Jackie Chan, it's a little boring for an adventure movie, and it's a Disney movie. Although I do like watching Natty Tre (National Treasure to you).

    Hot Fuzz  (2007)

i loved this movie! it is already one of my favorite movies. definitely top ten worthy. this is even better than Shaun of the Dead-which has the same guys. Hot Fuzz is super funny, awesome action, good acting-for whatever genre this fits into, and you'll want to see it again right after.
British comedy is right now better than American comedy and these guys prove it. I'd watch anything Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are in rather than another movie made over here "in the states" that's been rehashed or poorly planned. The director Edgar Wright makes it all happen as well. Keep it coming!

    Family Business  (1989)

you'd think a cast with hoffman, connery, and matthew broderick would make a movie watchable on that note. but this is set between the "ferris bueller matthew broderick" and the "now matthew broderick." He's not that bad in this but the movie just blows. The guy on the back of the dvd case says "Sean Connery is Terrific...Dustin Hoffman is Brilliant...Matthew Broderick is Wonderful." None of this is true. They don't have a chance to be any of these adjectives. The director uses all these far away shots for way too long of a time and then the movie just becomes boring. the one almost really funny scene is just Broderick forgetting what room he is supposed to go into after planning this elaborate medical building heist. Oh yeah, they're a family of crooks. Then why is the movie a drama? It gets way too serious and believe it or not Sean Connery has the worst mouth in Family Business. It feels like in order for these actors to move into the 90s, they had to do one last horrible film. I bought this thinking it was a no-miss, but then again I hadn't heard of it before. Bad sign there. I actually sold this to my friend Kyle for a dollar. He just gave it back to me. It's not even worth having.....unless no one else will take it. They should put this movie in prisons. NO WAIT. You don't want those guys to go crazy. If I ran a prison, I'd play good movies but not have a rewind button, that would work.

    Disturbia  (2007)

i thought they gave away the whole movie in the trailer, which they did, but this was pretty good.
Shia LeBouf is getting better with each movie. He is likeable in this movie and you end up rooting for him. He has a friend who isn't that bad for a teen sidekick role. David Morse is still watchable and he's very disturbing in this one. He takes the typical bad guy role and makes it his own. The ending kinda makes you feel like the movie was short. Disturbia is great because there isn't a dull moment. It doesn't stall where there should be forward momentum in the story. The plot isn't so much as expected, but necessary to move at a faster pace.
Go see this movie. It's directed towards a more teen audience, but all ages should be able to sit through it.

    Surf Ninjas  (1993)

It's hard to write a review for this movie. It just makes me laugh like no other. If you want a good test to know if you appreciate smart and stupid humor, check it out.
I rest my case with a few quotes:
"Brothers don't surf. This gets back to the hood, won't none of the homies talk to me."
"No Van Halen before I have my coffee."
    "Ahh, skateboard-a!"
"I thought I was playing Shinobi"
"Look, who were those quimbies in the camouflage pajamas?"
I'll post some more after I watch the movie again.

  • my favorite movie

this is my favorite movie. i keep going back to it over and over again. i know what happens, and yet i always get excited about it. Tom Cruise has lost interest over the years by fans and the overall public, including me, but I can't deny that he is one of our best actors. It's hard not to watch him and not root for him.
Mission: Impossible might be Cruise's best performance....I think...maybe it's just me. Brian De Palma helps his case with great camera angles, especially at the Akvarium where Hunt blows up the aquarium themed restaurant in Prague.  Close-up on Cruise-"Kichrich, you've never seen me very upset."
It's hard to pick a best scene in the movie, whether it's Ethan Hunt propelling 30 feet from a heating duct, Hunt at the apartment after the mission gets botched, or just watching Tom Cruise run. If I ever had to choose to watch an actor run, it would be Cruise. Try watching him run. Do it.

  • the end of an awesome adventure

talk about the end of a trilogy going out with a bang! the extended version of this film is almost an hour longer than the other installments!
return of the king is probably the best film out of the three, seeing as it owns the rights to a best picture of the year oscar. I'm not a huge nerd-haven't read these books- but i will be never be able to stop watching this movie. special effects-best you can get. acting- not a weak link among the cast. length-far exceeds normal epic movies but you stay with it throughout (the film follows at least three different stories). Sean Astin should've gotten a best supporting actor nod for this.
If you have never seen Return of the King, you are missing out. IT IS FANTASY. But it is also one of the best pictures in years, hands down great movie. Although if you haven't seen Return of the King, you probably haven't seen the Fellowship of the Ring or Two Towers, which rank high right up with this one. These are all not to be missed.
