The Royal Tenenbaums

Under discussion:
The Royal Tenenbaums was a masterfully crafted bit of family dysfunction. Great for any holiday.

I thought it was beautiful in the way of a well planned but over exposed photo from the 70's.  Everyone come dressed to the nines and poses just so, but there is some seedy element about the context.  Its over done yet there is a beautifully awkward quality to it that is thrilling.

Well *I* loved it, as well as the rest of the films you mentioned.

Its not that I completely agree with briconella - I didn't fall asleep during The Royal Tenenbaums, but I don't really think it was masterfully created and its definitely not great for any holiday. It crossed the line of being too weird. There is no family like that. Its just a wacky movie for wacky people.

I'm going to choose to ignore you Briconella, because I'm guessing you watched it in bad company, or maybe you were just too tired in the first place. The Royal Tenenbaums is a great film, I would never watch it with my parents however, it's not good for mixed company, or anyone who can't watch a movie if it doesn't have at least one explosion.

Give it another watch, make sure it's a Sunday afternoon, grab some snacks and give it another go. Have you seen The Life Aquatic? Rushmore, Bottle Rocket? Start from the beginning with Bottle Rocket and work your way forward, then come talk to Paul and me here.
