Originally a cult performance in the meat-packing district in NY, this film is raw. Hedwig brings fascinating characters, great music, and surprising performances to the table. I watched this film three times in a row after we bought it... got the soundtrack and watched all of the extras that same week. I got a few others to watch it too, but all seemed confused about my (at that time...) infatuation. There are these angsty animated illustrations that bridge Hedwig's love life, child hood and singing professional life together. The extras on the dvd are pretty fresh as well. It's not something to watch with others who are opposed with homosexuality, sex changes, cross-dressing, modern love tales, and rock-operas but who watches cool movies with people like that anyhow? Think Rocky-Horror Picture Show meets... I dunno, Say Anything?... I'm stretching there... watching this one with like-minded people.

    Duck Season  (2004)

Duck Season Debut director/co-writer Fernando Eimbcke’s comedy invites us into one particular Sunday morning in the lives of two 14-year-old boys: Flama and Moko. Along with their neighbor and a pizza delivery boy, they create their own adventures to overcome boredom. In addition to the humor, Eimbcke explores the loneliness of childhood, the effects of divorce and the curious power of love and friendship. “The spirits of Jim Jarmusch and Kevin Smith hover over this breezy slacker comedy...” – Seattle Post-Intelligencer - Sean Axmaker Website: http://wip.warnerbros.com/duckseason/ Showtimes 6/2 Friday - 3:00, 7:00 PM 6/3 Saturday - 3:00, 7:00 PM 6/4 Sunday - 3:00, 7:00 PM 6/5 Monday - 7:00 PM 6/6 Tuesday - 7:00 PM 6/7 Wednesday - 7:00 PM 6/8 Thursday - 7:00 PM 41 Sheldon Boulevard SE Grand Rapids Michigan 49503-4227 Phone: 616 454 7000 Fax: 616 459 9395 E-mail: info@uica.org GO!

    Night Watch  (2004)

Night Watch Set in contemporary Moscow, Night Watch revolves around the conflict and balance maintained between the forces of light and darkness – the result of a medieval truce between the opposing sides. As night falls, the dark forces battle the super-human "Others" of the Night Watch, whose mission is to patrol and protect. But there is constant fear that an ancient prophecy will come true: that a powerful "Other" will rise up, be tempted by one of the sides, and tip the balance plunging the world into a renewed war between the dark and light, the results of which would be catastrophic. Night Watch is the first installment of a trilogy based on the best-selling sci-fi novels of Sergei Lukyanenko entitled Night Watch, Day Watch and Dusk Watch. In Russian with English subtitles. "A contemporary Russian movie that you could honestly call revolutionary, more for its style than its politics." – Chicago Tribune - Michael Wilmington Website: http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/nwnd/ Showtimes 6/2 Friday - 5:00, 9:00 PM 6/3 Saturday - 1:00, 5:00, 9:00 PM 6/4 Sunday - 1:00, 5:00 PM 6/5 Monday - 5:00, 9:00 PM 6/6 Tuesday - 5:00, 9:00 PM 6/7 Wednesday - 5:00, 9:00 PM 6/8 Thursday - 5:00, 9:00 PM http://www.uica.org/ 41 Sheldon Boulevard SE Grand Rapids Michigan 49503-4227 Phone: 616 454 7000 Fax: 616 459 9395 E-mail: info@uica.org GO!
