If I watch one spelling bee movie...
If I watch one spelling bee movie, should it be Akeelah and the Bee (2006) or
Spellbound (2002)?

I watched Bee Season last fall with Richard Gere and enjoyed a sweet little film.. but I agree, why watch more than one which is why I've stayed away from Akeelah, Word, and Spellbound. My god, were all these film makers having dinner together three years ago? I'm not a big Gere fan, but a huge Juliet Binoche fan, the Kabahlah and kleptomaniac side stories made for interesting distraction, and the special effects are likely some spellers techniques. These aren't enough to recommend the film though unless you're into any of them. Would you recommend Spellbound? I've heard Word is great . (Maybe word is more about crossword puzzles... same genre to me ;)

spellbound for sure. i mean, why try to remake a good documentary into a feature? its not necessary. spellbound is good enough to stand on its own.

Most definitely SPELLBOUND. Hand's down. No question.
