I watched this last night to get some tips for my own house. This is from when Martha was a little younger (1993) and she was not such a perfectionist and not so successful yet. This is good and bad, I like how perfect all of her projects turn out now in her magazine and on her show, and this didn't have that perfect quality, but watching Martha from 1993 is sorta funny - frizzy hair, baggy coats and tapered paints.
The video started out with a really really cheesey advertisement for Murphy's Oil. It wasn't supposed to be a commercial or anything, it was supposed to look like they really were working on Martha's house and using Murphy's Oil...way too cheesey, but it was done within 3 minutes and they didn't bring it up again.
The best things about the film were...watching the guy patch old plaster and also watching him put up new plaster to match the old. They also put the layout of the house on the screen while they were talking about it to show where they were working or to show what walls they knocked out and why. This was very helpful in visualizing what they did to the house.
They didn't show how they decided on much of the interior decorating and they seemed to skip a lot of parts...for example, there was a little hallway that lead to a children's room and bath and Martha seemed pretty excited about it, but then they never showed the finished product.
Overall it was a sorta slow moving film with not so many really helpful tips, but if you like Martha and you are interested in rennovating then its worth watching...and maybe fast forwarding parts of it (especially the Murphy's Oil part).
