This summer had a lot of new movies in theaters - some I've been eargerly awaiting, and others I only saw when there was nothing else to pick from. I've also included some movies I've seen on DVD or TV over the summer. Anyway, in no particular order, here's is my long list of brief movie reviews.
Balls of Fury - 3/5 - I saw this today. It was kind of funny, but I don't really want to see it again. I though there were too many blind jokes. I'm not really sure why I didn't like it, I guess the plot was just a little too odd.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - 5/5 - One of the best movies I've seen this summer. I went to midnight first showing of this one. I loved the Daily Prophet fly through scenes and the Voldemort vs. Dumbledore scene. I went to see Harry Potter later in mid-August at the IMAX with the finale in 3-D. It was awesome! The Hall of Prophecy collapsing scene was awesome and the Voldemort vs. Dumbledore was even better. I would sefinately recommend going to see it in IMAX even if you seen the movie already - you won't have the opportunity much longer.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - 3/5 - I thought this movie was pretty funny. The ending kind of ruined the movie though. After a mostly good and funny movie, the ending didn't make sense. Why would the gay community be celebrating two straight guys abusing the domestic partnership system? I'm pretty sure that Chuck, Larry, and the fire chief would go to jail an stay in jail, because nobody would be angry about their imprisonment.
The Nanny Diaries - 3/5 - I guess I partially didn't like this movie because I was expecting it to be funnier. The beginning with the museum exhbits was pretty long and boring too. What was the point of hiding Mr. X's face at the beginning? His face is hidden twice and then his face is just there.
Ratatouille - 4/5 - This movie was another great Pixar movie. There were some boring scenes with Remy running round that were boring though. And what kind of name was "Alfredo Linguini"? But I really liked the rest of the movie. I loved the scene when the health inspector comes into the kitchen filled with rats. I'm glad that they realistically closed down the restaurant instead of coming up with some stupid excuse why the restaurant would stay open, but then opened up a new place for the happy ending.
The Simpsons Movie - 5/5 - Another movie I saw the midnight first showing. The movie was hilarious. It definately lived up to the TV series. The scene where Bart redrew the "wanted" sign was really funny. I like how everything in movie had its importance in the end. I was definately not expecting the motorcycling to reappear and they called attention the sinkhole through a joke at first.
Spider-man 3 - 5/5 - I saw this movie at midnight. Some people hve been saying that it was the worst of the trilogy, but I liked it the best. I really liked the addition of Eddie Brock. He was a source of comic relief at some points and was a great villain. with clear motives. Sandman was another cool villain, but I wish they hadn't gone for another "science experiment gone wrong" villain, which was the orgin of the Green Goblin and Doc Ock's evil.
Transformers - 4/5 - This movie was pretty cool, and had some good humor I wasn't expecting. The long action sequence at the end had me lost in some parts. How did Bumblebee larn to talk?
Slayers: The Motion Picture - 2/5 - My sister and I watched this after watching the series Slayers. The movie was pretty much a bunch of random adventures with a few dreams which connected to the end. It wasn't as good as the series.
Eye of the Stalker: A Moment of Truth - 3/5 - My sister and I watched this a few weeks ago on Lifetime. It was interesting, but I wouldn't want to see it again. The random stalker facts at the end of the movie didn't make sense.
Shrek the Third - 4/5 - The movie wasn't as good as the first two but it was still pretty funny. Yep.
Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea - 4/5 - I was expecting to see a bad movie with the declining quality of the Pokémon series, but the movie was actually pretty good. For some reason Spout doesn't have a page for it.
Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew - 2/5 - Probably the worst Pokémon movie. Boring.
So that's pretty much all the movies I was introduced to this summer. I bid you toodles.
