Two films on your list that you should give a chance before pre-judging.
12 Monkeys: First, it has surprisingly little to do with monkeys. I mean, there are monkeys, and they have a role, but the film is larger than its title. This is one of Terry Gilliam's (the Python who made the cartoons) better films. It deals in the consequences of technology, time travel, and choice that are profound. It's dark, apocalyptic, and a little weird, but it's worth the watch. Brad Pitt was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the film as well. It's on my wishlist.
Kill Bill: If you don't like Quentin Tarantino, then I guess I wouldn't bother, but both Kill Bills are extremely excellent movies and the best he's done since Pulp Fiction. They are tight, original, and fun to watch. The first volume is necessary to get to the second. I was skeptical of them at first too, especially since I'm not an overall fan of Uma, but I'm telling you - these movies are awesome. Strong women characters, lots of ninja type fighting, and stylistic homages to anime. If you like anime, the first volume is especially important. Give these movies a chance, you'll be glad you did.
