OK, it seems like you have to preference a review like this with your comic book geek cred. I have a stack of long boxes full of comics from the early 80s till last week, the vast majority of which where bought new off the rack. I've been to the area BiMonSciFi con more times than I would like to admit in public, and I have a shelf full of various actions figures i like to pretend aren't dolls. I have strong opinions about all movies, but comic movies have a special place in my heart.
I enjoyed this movie, but didn't think it was great. I think they did a good job in this one of mixing humor with action, which was always may favorite part of the comics. I once again think the movie fell short in the overall plot resolution. In this case, the ending fell far flat. I thought the final visual reveal of the big bad was weak. The final, mostly off camera "fight" depended on a balance of power that obviosuly couldn't exist.
Overall it was a fun summer comic book movie, but nothing faboulous.
