    Shoot 'Em Up  (2007)

I just got out of Shoot 'Em Up.  I don't know what to say about it.  I Thought it was great in the whole action and unloading guns kind of way.  if you are a fan of Sin City, You will like this movie.  It has all of the smartness of Sin City with all of the gore of Kill Bill Vol 1 without a lot of the blood.  Paul Giamatti is a great... Ahem GREAT bad guy!  He is evil and coniving.  His face and voice contort in the greatest fashion when monologuing.  Clive Owen is as straight laced as always.  His Monotonous voice is perfect for this movie (as it is with all of his other works).  The pacing of this film is almost at a flat out run.  There were very few points that it slowed down.  When it did you could feel the movie "catching it's breath".  The sex was gratuitous, the Jokes were obligatory, the action was unrelenting.  I think it was fun like any other "shoot em up" movie.  Dad, you will love this one.

    Equilibrium  (2002)

When I first saw the Matrix, I thought it was incomperable.  There was nothing that could stand up to it.  Then I saw Matrix 2 and realised that it wasn't just the superman jump at the end of the movie, it was the whole friggen script.  I liked the effects and the story idea but the more they talked about it the less I believed it.  Then I saw Equilibrium. The only bad thing in this entire movie was the face slash at the end.  Well, ok they never really explained the swords really well either.  However, the story line works beautifully.  How much validation do we really need that A: emotions are evil and cause mankinds problems. (the bhuddists have been saying that for centuries) and B: in the future a martial art will be constructed with hand guns.  Of course there will be.

From there, you can look at the cinematography (gorgeous), the costumes, (efficient and usable, believeable), the performances (dead on.  Taye Diggs only has one emotion right?)  even the coreography and the music works perfectly.  any minor faults I have with this movie fall to the wayside when I am reminded that beauty is subjective and necessary for our world to exist.

  • Such a classic

This movie will always be in my heart as one of the best "horrible" Conan remakes.  This movie is such a genre cliche yet the shooting sword tries real hard to make it original.  I especially liked the slimy bad guy.  No, this movie will not make anyone scream with anticipation or shock or fear but, it is a fun movie with all the classic ingredients and enough hokieness to keep you from taking it seriously.
