I never lived in a frat nor attended frat parties. Yet, the world of Lexi Shabel's documentary on
The Unband, helped me to attend my first frat party, complete with excessive male energy encased in a world of stupidity. If you love reading
Drunkard, then this is the film for you. Even though I disliked the subject matter, found the world of male stupidity hitting an all-time asshole high, the film succeeds, and it was there that my attention stayed.
Shabel brilliantly captures the essence of this band: dicks flying like metal beats, alcohol pouring through blitzed eyes, and a trio bonding through drink. The documentary follows the evolution of the band, with footage from early days interspersed with the boys years later, still trying to find a moment of stardom, even if it's to a lonely drunk in a random club. The camera continues to capture their desperation and spiral down, but ends with a positive sense of the boys finding their way out of their dicks, maturing a bit, even if their heart is still in the bottle pounding rock 'n' roll.
