Funny, cute, and a great chick flick. The Proposal released June 19 2009 directed by Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses) is a romantic comedy which will have you laughing throughout the entire movie. The story follows Margret Tate played by Sandra Bullock (Miss Congeniality, The Lake House) a crude boss who is solely focused on her job and does not care who she steps on to get her way. When she is about to be deported she conveniently finds a suitable “green card” in her assistant Andrew played by Ryan Reynolds (Smokin’ Aces, Definitely, Maybe). As the pair try to convince the world that they are in love the audience can’t help but fall in love with them and witness their connection. When her bright idea turns opposite from the original plan, the “proposal” gets a different meaning and the one whom no one can love finds happiness. The Alaska scenery was breathtaking and it added a breath of fresh air. Yes, this movie may be predictable, but is that not why people watch romantic comedies? Because they know what’s going to happen and expect a happy ending? Bullock’s witty personality combined with the awkwardness of Reynold’s made a perfect pair as their onscreen chemistry was remarkable. The acting shows the capabilities and strengths of these actors and leaves us wanting more movies staring them. This movie is perfect for anyone who wants a good laugh or anyone that is a sucker for love.
