    Sex and the City  (2008)

More than once, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign has been saved by women voters. And as she makes the case to automatic delegates that she is the strongest candidate to go up against John McCain, Hillary may be getting some unexpected help from Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, and the girls of the new Sex & The City movie.

More specifically, the women of Women in Politics & Technology have teamed up with Mobilize.org to launch a national voter registration drive, targeting women as they wait in line for the new SATC flick.

    Voter Registration Campaign this weekend

Join Mobilize.org staff and volunteers across the country in an evening at the movies, with a side of voter registration. When you go see Sex and the City (or Indiana Jones) this weekend, please print out a couple copies of the National Voter Registration form (PDF) and ask those in front of you, and behind you, in line at the movie theater if they are registered to vote. If not, ask them to! That site also includes information on how to turn in forms, and the Mobilize.org staff (if on-site) will be more than happy to collect and process the forms for you.

Take a picture, take your friends and send us texts or pictures and we’ll post them online and hopefully, we’ll be able to connect you with one another in cities around the country. To sign up, or for more information – please email movies@mobilize.org. We’ll be giving out prizes, including popcorn and movie tickets for your next show, t-shirts and CD’s.

It's undeniable that the Democratic Party has been helped by the increased participation in the primaries. But what most overlook, is that the increased participation has been driven by the core groups favoring Hillary Clinton, particularly women.
Women primary voters rose from 7.56 million in the 2004 Democratic primaries to more than 21 million to date in 2008 – from 54% to 58% of the Democratic primary electorate.

In Ohio, for example, women rose from 52% of the Democratic presidential primary voters in 2004 to 59% in 2008.
I, for one, think this idea is a brilliant one. And, guys, if the Geek Squad-furnished excuses don't work, lecture your girlfriend on the importance of voting to our democratic form of government.

    Recount  (2008)

Jacob Soboroff, of the non-partisan election reform organization Why Tuesday?, went to The Grove in Los Angeles where HBO set up the actual Votomatic Florida voting machines used in the controversial 2000 Presidential Election, complete with butterfly ballots and hanging chads, so that people can judge for themselves whether they could have effectively cast their ballot.

    Recount  (2008)

This cautionary documentary exposes the vulnerability of computers - which count approximately 80% of America's votes in county, state and federal elections - suggesting that if our votes aren't safe, then our democracy isn't safe either.  I would recommend watching this documentary before you watch HBO's "Recount," the story about the 2000 election and the Florida recount.

The documentary exposes the dangers of voting machines used during America's mid term and presidential elections. Electronic voting machines count approximately 90% of America's votes in county, state and federal elections. The technology is also increasingly being used across the world, including in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Latin America. Filmed over three years this exposé follows the investigations of a team of citizen activists and hackers as they take on the electronic voting industry, targeting the Diebold corporation.

"Hacking Democracy" uncovers incendiary evidence from the trash cans of Texas to the ballot boxes of Ohio, exposing secrecy, votes in the trash, hackable software and election officials rigging the presidential recount.
Ultimately proving our votes can be stolen without a trace "Hacking Democracy" culminates in the famous 'Hursti Hack'; a duel between the Diebold voting machines and a computer hacker from Finland - with America's democracy at stake.

    Envy  (2004)

Envy has its moments.  You can really see the beginnings of some of Stiller's later characters.  Amy Poehler's chracter is redeeming.
