    Once  (2007)

Once had been on my “Want to see it” list for a while. Finally, just recently I got the chance to sit down and watch this film. Before I continue, I feel like I should put a disclaimer that I am a total sucker for romantic films…and (probably not surprising) I loved Once!  So much so, that it left me a bit speechless. I was blown away by its pure, authentic approach to the relationship that developed between the two main characters in this story. It seemed pretty true to how love is in real life and how past choices affect current situations. It’s beautiful and I think that even if you’re not one for what’s normally defined as a “chic flick”, you’ll dig what’s going on in this movie. Oh…and an added bonus is that the soundtrack rocks!

    I'm Not There  (2007)

I'm Not There has a synopsis that states the movie features Bob Dylan played by different actors focusing on "various stages of his remarkable career."  My expectations were one...that different actors would actually be playing Bob Dylan and two...that even though the timeline of the movie might not completely be sequential, I'd still come away with a more holistic view of the life of Bob Dylan. My expectations were not met. First, out of a total of six actors, only two of them seemed to be playing Bob Dylan. Perhaps the others were supposed to represent the various sides of Dylan's psyche, but I didn't get them. And then the way the movie was cut, I kept on waiting for the various scenes to eventually connect on some level, but they didn't. Overall, I left confused thinking that perhaps I don't know Dylan or his music enough to get the abstract storytelling in this film.
