This movie was just another "one of those movies." Nothing special, no honorable mentions, nothing. I will however say that David Cross did half-rid himself of the Napoleon Dynamite stereotype he had going on. Billy Bob Thornton did do his part in playing the strict instructor ass that he was. It had its moments, but its moments didn't save it from being an average movie. It wasn't a huge disappointment, but it was a disappointment nonetheless. If your looking for a "fall out of your seat" funny movie, this movie is not for you. If you are looking for a movie that will give you a small tickle of a laugh every now and then, then hey why not this one. Don't get your hopes up though. I give School for Scoundrels a 3 out of 5.

  • Stranger than Fiction

Will Ferrell disappointed me and surprised me at the same time. He wasn't funny, hell I actually wasn't expecting him to be all that funny in his new movie Stranger than Fiction, but I expected something else. The movie was however, oddly "good" in a sense. I happened to enjoy the wide vocabulary used in the narrator's book. This movie made me actually aspire to become literate, or at least try a career that involves literacy and hopefully write and publish a novel. It's not everyday you see a movie as "quirky" (ktincu) as this, but it's pretty damn satisfying. I watched it twice, back-to-back to find something in this movie, but could not. I don't know what, but it's not the greatest movie ever made, I figure that. It's a pretty straight-forward movie which I like and doesn't lose you with a complex storyline like in a lot of movies of today. It's quick-witted or most of the characters are, and I especially enjoyed the narrator's performance in being a neurotic author as most author's are or at least I'd like to believe so (writer's block...a classic). I think it could've been better, and to be honest, I did see the poeticalness in the narrator's original ending to the story and would probably of liked the movie or have given it a better rating if it did go that way. I don't want to give out any spoilers, perhaps I already have, but if there is honestly nothing else to rent, I don't think you would mind picking up Stranger than Fiction. How can I put this, it's a smart movie.  I give it a 3 out of 5.

    The Prestige  (2006)

I got pretty caught up in this movie, that came out shortly after The Illusionist. Christian Bale gave a lovely performance as the unlikely magician in the movie. In this movie you were either forced to root for either the wonderfully presented magician who wasn't that great at being a magician compared to his rival, or of course the magician who didn't know how to present himself but in core was the true magician. Each with their different ideals in how to practice their way-of-life as a turn-of-the-century magician. This movie gave me plenty insightful views in the careers of the struggling magician, or a magician period. It is also a revealing movie, not to give any spoilers, but as with the birds. I still can't believe how they do that, it's shameful. But it's like they said "you need to get your hands dirty" in their line of work. Overall this movie is much better to it's rival the Illusionist and it subsided my hunger to see another magician based movie for at least another ten years. I give The Prestige a 4 out of 5 because of it's great plot, great characters, and great ending. "Any last words?...."

    "Abracadabra..."

    Memento  (2000)

Christopher Nolan did a great job on this title, seeming how it quickly climbed it's way into my all-time favorite movies list. I watched this movie last year around summer time and still can not shake its brilliance. I was stunned by its backward-pace memory game. It's one of the only movies I've seen to this date that mastered the end-to beginning-to end order of events. This movie inspired me to get a tattoo, hell...tattoos  and got me to write notes all over myself. The day after I saw this movie I jumped into the bathtub with sharpie written all over me with reminders for the day. Some mimicking the tattoos of Guy Pearce in Memento. The horrific state of the main character astonished me and caused me to watch the entire movie jaw-dropped. It never even occured to me that the entire movie was in black-n-white, and that says something.

It is an amazing movie that I found to be unmatchable in its suspense. If you have the time I strongly recommend picking up this movie at your local blockbuster or video store. It will leave you wanting more. I am mesmerized, I fell in love again for the first time all over again. Memento is a "MUST SEE!"

    The Illusionist  (2006)

I rented this surprisingly entertaining movie from blockbuster a few weeks back and I have to say it's not half-bad. There was really nothing wrong with this movie, it had a decent plot and some pretty interesting characters. It's a slow-paced film with a number of twists and turns that keep leading you spiraling in circles to it's sadly predictable ending. Although it may have cause some to rack their brains, I was not fooled by The Illusionist. The romantic side of the movie was short of great, but good nonetheless. The movie keeps you glued to your chair to discover the unforgettable ending. Edward Norton puts on quite a show for his audience as the star character in The Illusionist although not near as great as he was in Fight Club. Nevertheless he did a good job as well as with the other cast. The only downside to this movie was the predictability of it, the title pretty much gave away it's ending. This however doesn't keep the movie from being a good movie or a great rent. I enjoyed this entertaining piece of work by Neil Burger and his cast and will have to give it a 3 out of 5. Decent.
