Before the Music Dies opens viewers' eyes to what has been happening not in the music industry per se, but to music itself. Not to be confused with the history of music, but rather how in present day, record labels' pre-packaged pieces of eye candy with little or no talent are the ones given contracts and then glorified by the media. It's about real, independant musicians not only being harder to come by (especially if you're still listening to the radio for your source of 'new' music - try the internet instead), but also less likely to flourish.
For two guys that, according to IMDB, had never made a film before, the movie is impressive. They interviewed some really talented and informed people. My only qualm with the film was that the pacing was a little too fast at many points. Besides that, I think it's a great film to raise questions and conversation about music and where it's headed.
