Synopsis:
Scribble Jam is the largest underground hip-hop festival running. It was co-founded in 1996 by Cincinnati’s DJ Mr. Dibbs of Atmosphere and has continuously grown in popularity and prestige. This dvd chronicles 2003’s Scribble Jam #7, which not only exhibited the usual freestyle, graffiti writing and dj contest, but also the 10th Anniversary Rhymesayers Showcase, featuring Eyedea and Abilities, Murs, MF Doom, Brother Ali and of course Atmosphere.
Review:
This is definitely one to be watched over and over again. The reverse side of the dvd highlights the Rhymesayers event, including over 40 minutes of live Atmosphere footage. Being a big Atmosphere fan, I may be a bit biased but I can absolutely say that any hip-hop heads or live music fans in general can take an experience away from this disc that will make the thirsty for more. You will also get a very strong sense of why underground music has much more devoted fans: because they are actually appreciated by the performers.
I recommend this disc as a must own for any fan of hip-hop and everyone else should at least see it once. Who knows, you may find out that you haven’t even discovered your favorite music yet.
