Cover A Must See

Under discussion:

Cover  (2007)

Wow!  I just finished watching a preview copy of the new suspense/drama Cover by director Bill Duke and it was great.  The film seemed like it was going to have a routine, predictable, storyline but it DOESN’T.  In the middle of the movie there is such a powerful twist that the viewer is left dazed.  The film had a limited theatrical release (2 weeks in 28 theaters) and I wonder why it did not stay in theaters longer.

Without revealing too much of the story as to cause spoilers…a family relocates from Atlanta to a wealth community of Philadelphia.  The family quickly settles into life in their new city.  The loving wife becomes the prime suspect in a New Year’s Eve shooting.  Is she or isn’t she the killer?  That question is answered in this shocking murder mystery.

Aunjanue Ellis (Brother to Brother) delivers a powerful performance as Valerie Maas the accused killer.  Razaaq Adoti (Black Hawk Down, Doom, Resident Evil Apocalypse) does an astonishing job playing the husband, Dutch Maas.  Vivica A Fox (Kill Bill, Two Can Play That Game) is the loyal friend Zahara, and my favorite character Ryan Chambers is played Leon (Waiting to Exhale).  The rest of the cast is stellar and includes Louis Gossett Jr., Richard Gant, and Patti LaBelle.

Cover is a good suspenseful movie that will keep you guessing until the end.  Well…almost to the end.  The film has a mainstream appeal and will do well with all audiences.  This is the kind of movie that you will tell all your friends to see.  Buy it, rent it, do whatever--just see the movie.
