People think that I hate popular movies because I hate Boondock Saints, Garden State, and Napoleon Dynamite. But let's get it straight, I hate bad movies, not popular movies. V for Vendetta shows that sometimes popular movies can be good. (I'm just kidding, I love popular movies like Ace Ventura, Star Wars Episode III, The Royal Tenembaums, Moulin Rouge, The Matrix and many others). And I don't think that anyone should be surprised that I truly enjoy V for Vendetta (I mean I was written by the Wachowski brothers, who wrote and directed The Matrix, and everyone who knows me should know that I really love The Matrix). Not only is V for Vendetta an entertaining, fun movie, it also says something (and it says it in such a sweet way).
V for Vendetta had some dialogue that reminds me of Edwin's movies. Mainly, the dialogue is blunt, and it should be. Government agents say things like, "Yup, Evey (Natalie Portman) is dangerous because her parents were political activists". There also is a reference to forensics similar to Edwin's "Because of forensics…" joke. Also, there were repeat lines from The Matrix and its sequels, which yeah, when one writes a new screenplay s/he should use lines from her/his old one. I know that I laughed inappropriately at these lines, but even Hugo Weaving's voice inflection was the same. Don't get me wrong, that makes me like the movie even better. Also, when Vendetta and the corrupt people have the knife fight, the set looks suspiciously like the set where Keanu Reeves decides to stay in the Matrix and fight Agent Smith, hmmmmmm? (Don't quote me on that one, I didn't check the facts, it's just an observation).
The movie has a message about the need for rebellion against a corrupt state, the need for hope, the need for change. I would say that V for Vendetta bluntly puts this message across. I would not say that the message is super deep, but it does not make this movie less unique or entertaining. V for Vendetta is a fun ride with humor, mystery, and thrills.
A love interest close to the end of the movie nearly ruined it for me, but then it recovered, so don't worry.
I would not give this movie my highest recommendation, but it is thoroughly enjoyable and worth seeing.
