kle Bloghttp://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/default.aspxen-USSpout RSSIt's not called gym-nice-stics. http://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/archive/2006/7/14/1829.aspxFri, 14 Jul 2006 14:31:00 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:1829kle0http://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/comments/1829.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/commentrss.aspx?PostID=1829<a href="/films/StickIt/262353/default.aspx">Stick-it</a>...<br /><br />when i first saw the previews for this movie, it was advertised as "from the directors/producers/makers??? of <a href="/films/BringItOn/151615/default.aspx">bring it on</a>" (i don't remember). i was thrilled with this, since i have so many wonderful memories of watching the ridiculous and yet somewhat funny bring it on.&nbsp; although i never saw any of the later bring it on sequels - <a href="/films/BringItOnAgain/236133/default.aspx">bring it on again</a> or <a href="/films/BringItOnAllorNothing/282803/default.aspx">bring it on: all or nothing</a>, i will forever remember sitting in tara's bedroom watching this cheerleading movie about silly high school boys and girls again, and again, and again... you get the idea.&nbsp; it still brings a smile to my face.&nbsp; <br /><br />but anyways, my point.&nbsp; i was curious about this new movie.&nbsp; i had high hopes that it would hold the similar dizzy, girly stupidity that bring it on consisted of.&nbsp; but when i got to the theater and watched the movie, i was pleasantly surprised.&nbsp; stick it is about not compromising.&nbsp; it's about not settling for less.&nbsp; it's about being a strong human being.&nbsp; way deeper and more inspirational than the flighty girls of bring it on.<br /><br />all seriousness aside, i am not a big fan of gymnastics, but i was genuinely impressed with what these girls could do with their bodies! <br />Butterflieshttp://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/archive/2005/12/23/46.aspxFri, 23 Dec 2005 20:13:00 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:46kle1http://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/comments/46.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/kle/commentrss.aspx?PostID=46<P>Please bear with me, as I am a blog virgin.&nbsp; I am not sure how this is suppose to work, but I am willing to give it a try.&nbsp; So here goes nothing.&nbsp; </P> <P><a href="http://www.spout.com/films/IntheTimeoftheButterflies/201061/default.aspx"><STRONG><FONT color=#000000>In the Time of the Butterflies </FONT></STRONG></A>&nbsp;...&nbsp;this is one film that I wanted to talk about because it really&nbsp;moved me.&nbsp; In short, it is about a revolution in the DR that was basically started (or at least progressed) by three young sisters.&nbsp; I first saw this movie as a timid sophmore spanish student at Calvin.&nbsp; I sat in awe during the whole movie - transfixed by these amazing women.&nbsp; I felt that I was a part of the story, but then again, this is what every great movie should do for you.&nbsp; I was overwhelmed by the attitude of the faithful women even in the imminent face of death.&nbsp; It especially encouraging that these revolutionists were women.&nbsp; Now don't get me wrong, I am no bra burner - I believe that woman have a place and men have a place.&nbsp; But these women were strong and persistant in standing up for what they believe, and this should transend gender - then and now.&nbsp; </P> <P>This is a tragic, but <SPAN>significant </SPAN>movie that all must see.&nbsp; Every once in a while it is important to be shaken off our <SPAN>pedestal </SPAN>of comfort and remember all that is REALLY going on in our world and what has gone on in our past.</P>
