Blood and Chocolate (2007)

I thought this film was entertaining, but that's about it. I didn't really get that much out of it. I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to that, but I'm sure the book was better (that's just usually the way it is). I would recommend it if you are a young adult (17-25).

Black Snake Moan (2007)

I really loved this movie. I went in not knowing what it was about at all, so I was surprised to watch a movie about redemption, revenge, friendship, and ultimately salvation. This moive is not for the faint of heart, though. There is a lot of sex, violence, and adult language, but it is all essential to the plot, so it's not in bad taste. I loved this movie and would recommend it.

Notes on a Scandal (2006)

This was a good, well-performed drama about a woman who becomes obsessed with a coworker. Cate Blanchett was great as the victim, who in the end realizes she is stronger than she thought. It is interesting to see the unravelling of several lives because of the choices these women make. As always, Judi Dench was wonderful. I really enjoyed the movie.

Challenging and thought provoking

The Good Shepherd (2006)

This movie was surprisingly good. I was skeptical because I am not an Angelina Jolie fan, and as always, she overacted her part, but because she's not in the film much, it was really good. Matt Damon does a good job portraying a "good shepherd" in the early days of the CIA. He does what is expected of him and pays the price over and over again in order to do what he feels is best for America. After watching this and the movie Breach (another good film), it was interesting to find out just how much the CIA is involved in everything. Although "Spy Game" is my all-time favorite CIA movie, this one deserves a close second.

Smokin' Aces (2007)

After being bugged to death by my husband to rent this movie, I finally gave in. Imagine my shock when I actually liked it. Don't get me wrong, it's not the kind of film that will challenge your intellect, but it is extremely entertaining. I liked the ensemble cast, especially Alicia Keys and Ryan Reynolds. I thought they both gave great performances. I usually dread watching shoot-em-up action flicks with my hubby, but this one surprised me, therefore, I would recommend it.

Because I Said So (2006)

I really didn't think this movie was good. In fact, after it was over, I was kinda mad that I had spent almost two hours watching it. I like Diane Keaton, but she wasn't good at all in this movie. And, although Mandy Moore has done some pretty good work in the past, this role was not suited for her. The whole movie just seemed really over-acted and very predictable. I would not recommend it unless you are the teenaged-Mandy Moore-crazed type.

I really liked this movie! I thought it was a great love story with a wonderful plot. It had a lot of action, but was still tender. I would definitely recommend it.
