Slightly appalled

Under discussion:

Wedding Crashers  (2005)

Knocked Up  (2007)
As more films like Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin continue to make money and get released, I become more and more disturbed with the direction of the entertainment industry. Under no circumstance should a film about pregnancy outside of marriage be funny. I don't understand how our society has decided to accept that pre-marital sex is not only okay, but encouraged. I may be speaking under false pretense as I have not actually seen Knocked Up, but the idea behind the film makes my stomach cringe. I don't really know what more to say. To be honest, if I did actually see the film, I would probably laugh quite a bit, but that is exactly what the producers and directors of a film like this expect. The entertainment industry has decided that anything goes, and anything that can get a buck is something that needs to be made. This couldn't be more clear in a film like Wedding Crashers, which is absolutely hilarious, but to be honest is almost like a softcore porn in some scenes. Something needs to change, but as long as the seats are filled in theaters, it won't.

I really don't think you ought to be commenting on a movie you haven't even seen. I have seen "Knocked Up" and it's hilarious, yes there are some crude jokes,. but there are many others which are deft and very clever and very real. The subtext of this movie isn't "oh my god, she's pregnant" (otherwise it'd be on the lifetime channel) it is creating relationships. This movie seems to me, more real and more lovely (yes I said lovely) than the 40-yr-old virgin (although I love that movie) because the goal of this movie is figuring out your life, growing up and taking responibility for your actions. I happen to be a teenager myself, and guess what? After seeing this movie, I DON'T want to go out and get pregnant. You really ought to give chidren or rather teenagers more credit. Yes, some of them are dumbsh***s, but a fair percentage are very smart and capable people who don't look to movies to guide them morally. And what, may I ask, is wrong with premartial sex? Oh, right, The bible says we shouldn't. Well the effing bible has been re-written so many godd**m times by patriarchal MEN I might and that maybe, just maybe, it isn't the true word of god? I think Life is about finding your bliss, happiness in any place you can because this life is so short and so filled with sadness, that really people should be out experiencing all that life has to give, including sex, granted that both participants are willing, at the age of consent, and there is the use of protection. I really think religious types ought to take the stigma out of sex, because it isn't shameful or dirty, it's just human. But I'm veering from my point, I do agree with you on the studio-executives and producers who try to get people in the seats, those f***ers should be stopped, and just let art be art, money-grubbing vermin. yuck. Anwho, see the movie, then make your judgements. Even though I disagree with you, thank you so much for expressing your opinions with Ovaries or Balls (I'm not sure if you're a man or a wommon)! Cheers!
