The Dark Knight (2008) is already a smash hit at the box office and a darling of the critics. And it is a good movie. Although a tad long, the length gives the characters a chance to say more than one-line speeches, and the movie benefits from the richer characterization. The action-packed cinematography and the booming sound track leave you exhilarated and exhausted when you leave the theatre. For the last few years, Christopher Nolan has been my favourite director. While directors do not necessarily colour the movie more than anyone else, Nolan gives the impression that he does, that he leaves his stamp on the product, that he’s the guy that kicks it up a notch. This one is worth seeing even if you are not a super-hero fan or a comics-to-screen aficionado.
