Robin Williams is fabulous in this film as all others.
surprising!http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2009/6/28/42840.aspxSun, 28 Jun 2009 17:49:20 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:42840Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/42840.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=42840
Why would one ever choose to see a film about arm wrestling? Normally, none, though I invite you to check out this one. You will L*O*V*E it! Highlighting the careers of three dedicated men, you learn what is in their hearts and you begin to root for your favorite.

Beautifully shot and edited to keep the energy and emotion high; How did I miss this gem of a corporate slam back in the mid 90's? Certainly then I wasn't entrenched in corporate culture. It's sweet and funny. Granted it could move a little quicker, but I wonder if back in the 90s we weren't multi-tasking so much and now expect so more from our films to keep us engaged. Of course, I watched this while sewing and piecing together various fabrics for my designs.
better as a short filmhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2007/3/10/6266.aspxSat, 10 Mar 2007 18:19:54 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:6266Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/6266.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=6266Clockwatchers is a fun little shot at corporate America but drones on and on in the boring lives of four clueless temporary workers. Screenwriting attempts to pull you into each of the women's lives but doesn't go far enough to be funny or to make you care about them. While many of the little jokes can make one laugh if you've worked in a corporate setting, this movie would have been better suited as a short film.I love the radio show Praire Home Companionhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2007/2/26/5785.aspxMon, 26 Feb 2007 14:48:59 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:5785Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/5785.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=5785
I did not however enjoy the movie. Robert Altman captured my sentiments exactly when in the commentary near the end of the film, he starts to yawn incessantly because he's bored. He actually questions and hopes that audiences watching the film don't get bored as well. He knows it's bad. He's done some really amazing films. Surely he knew when to stop the movie or how to make it better but was bound and gagged during filming and editing. I love Garrison's antics, stories, and quirky songs. I love all of it, but he was missing too much in the film. Perhaps Keven Kline starring as Guy Noir was chosen to be the predominant actor (and narrator) because they thought he'd be funny in a quirky almost handsome sort of way. Perhaps Garrison didn't want the 'lead' or wasn't comfortable with the acting bit having been on radio his whole (most?) career. Unfortunately Kevin isn't all that funny - though I adored him in a Fish Called Wanda, the other actors clearly carried that film. If only they did truly write the show about how our culture has changed and perhaps shown direct comparison to today's interests and how PHC is so different yet loved so much by diverse audiences. Perhaps there was a whole plot twist casting Lindsey Lohan in the film, yet her part was so small and.. bad. Anyone have any insight on that? Perhaps this is just before she went into rehab?

Sadly, I love the radio show Prairie Home Companion, however this movie isn't going to win over any new listeners.
sometimes dreaming IS betterhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2007/2/23/5715.aspxFri, 23 Feb 2007 16:28:40 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:5715Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/5715.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=5715
The Good Night is a fabulous film bringing together great acting, silliness, and the heaviness of everyday living. Haven't you had moments where you prefered to sleep verses face your problems? Lucid dreaming is for you! This was one of if not the best film at Sundance 2007. I highly recommend seeing this when it's released.
best mob movie in a long timehttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2007/2/23/5714.aspxFri, 23 Feb 2007 16:22:37 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:5714Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/5714.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=5714
The Departed is the best mob movie in long time. I loved the twists and turns and how immediately the two men are mistaken for their character. I appreciated the quick kills with no drawn out drama. I was worried about Madolyn for a while and was releaved she didn't get it. Reggie, I wondered the same thing about the picture. Clearly Scorsese wanted to highlight the juxtaposition between the two men through their responses to such a tender photograph. I was thinking she took it with her since Colin had such a negative or alarmingly neutral reaction. She might have even taken that whole box back to consider storing or putting those treasured items in her office. Of course it could also be a hole in filming!
Waiting for it to get betterhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/archive/2007/2/23/5713.aspxFri, 23 Feb 2007 16:12:09 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:5713Jenn0http://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/comments/5713.aspxhttp://www.spout.com/blogs/jenn/commentrss.aspx?PostID=5713I loved all the actors in Running with Scissors and expected great things. Surely this quirky movie was about to get really good. By minute 92 I gave up. It definitely had some funny moments though they didn't build enough to get you laughing. I found myself frowning at my TV more than anything only hope keeping the film running. I put this film in the same category as Life Aquatic and The Royal Tenenbaums... for its potential for cult following. The film itself seemed dated in method and technology as the music -from the 70's, an era which I don't appreciate, overplayed the acting and voices. There were also lingering shots on uneeded scenes making you think there was significance where in fact they were likely just the directors favorites for the lighting or a cousin's friend, or a landlord. The movie did teach me one thing however and that was to pay more attention to scumbags.. or at least men who look like scumbags but could well indeed be Joe Fiennes!
