    Lost: Season 02  (2005)

I love this series, but I'm glad I'm watching it on DVD - I don't have the patience for commercials, and then I'd REALLY be upset at the end of an episode when they present the cliffhanger and I have to wait a week to see how the story continues. Like I said in the title line, after things get settled in a little bit, the story line seems to drag and some of the characters don't get explored that should, and some get whole episodes that I felt don't deserve it (Rose and Bernard's story line bored me, and occasionally, so does Jin and Sun's story lines). But by the end of the series, I was fired up once again, and if you've seen Season 2, you know why. Fantastic. Can't wait to watch Season 3.

    One-Eyed Jacks  (1961)

This is, in my opinion, one of the better Westerns I've sat through, and I've seen a lot. Marlon Brando (R.I.P.) and Karl Malden's performances are fantastic, Pina Pellicer (R.I.P.) is mostly believeable as the naive but beautiful young woman who finally wins Kid Rio's heart, and the inimitable Slim Pickens is apropriately greasy as Dad Longworth's sleazy right hand man. The cinematography is beautiful, especially the scenes on the ocean (makes me want to go there). I've heard that Brando's only directorial effort was brought into Paramount Pictures at a whopping 4 hours long...but I think this film was just fine the way it is (i.e. - we don't NEED to see any more than the "official" version). It's subtext is stunning to watch in Brando and Malden's scenes together, and the rest of the cast do a great job. A fine film.
