What a load of crap that is. This movie sparked a newfound interest for me in Jack Nicholson and Greg Kinnear. Nicholson's Melvin Udall is as lovably loathsome as they get, Greg Kinnear is believably gay without reigning in a flamboyant performance, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. is fantastic as his lover and the catalyst for Nicholson and Kinnear's characters to unwillingly interact with one another. The script is filled with some of the most quotably funny lines from the '90's, and the story is just plausible enough to make you feel warm and fuzzy in the warm and fuzzy parts. Only gripe: The friggin' previews ruined one of the best lines in this film ("You make me want to be a better man"). It's the damned climax of the film!!! Hmph...trailer makers - who needs 'em? In any case, this FILM is as good as it gets.

  • A Lackluster Sequel

What happened? The first film (Kiss The Girls) had such a great feel and tone, while this one, even though it is beautifully shot by Lee Tamahori and Matthew F. Leonetti, feels bloated and boring. Morgan Freeman is still as thrilling as ever, but who decided that Monica Potter could pull this role off? Michael Wincott was a fine choice as the bad guy, but he's forever be etched in my mind as Top Dollar from The Crow. It just goes to show what a strange and unpredictable alchemy filmmaking is: all the talent in the world...lackluster finished project.

    Kiss The Girls  (1997)

Even though this film came out in the wake of "Seven" (which it shares a lot of similarities with), this film has a flavor all it's own. Morgan Freeman is, of course, a joy to watch (as he is in nearly everything he's in) as Dr. Alex Cross and Ashley Judd is wonderful as Kate McTiernan. The supporting cast are equally as strong (with a notable performance by Carey Elwes) and the story is captivating enough to keep you watching and guessing until the end. I worthy film to add to my collection, and yours, too!

I've read several reviews that say this is middle-of-the-road Allen, but I beg to differ. I found myself laughing out loud quite often during this film. Apart from the script, which is well written, the cinematography is breathtaking, everything awash in a golden hue. The production design is apt for the time also (the film is set in 1940), all brass and wood. The ending is a tad too romanticized for me, but that's a small gripe to deal with when the rest of the film is so entertaining.

    Beautiful Girls  (1996)

I remember seeing this in the theater with my girlfriend at the time, and just falling in love with the characters, especially Timothy Hutton's character (I even tried to grow my hair like his for a time) and Natalie Portman's character (that almost goes without saying). Heck yeah, this is as chick flick as they come, but the cast is top notch and the soundtrack fits the tone of the film PERFECTLY. This is one of those "comfort" films I've talked about in other reviews, and I tend to watch this on rainy days when I want to fall asleep in front of the tube. Well written and expertly directed, give Beautiful Girls a try.

    Borat  (2006)

Even though Borat is a character that originated on the Ali G Show, I really hope they don't do a sequel or several sequels for this film, as they will not be as funny as this one. I imagine it'd be very difficult to do a sequel anyhow, seeing as Borat is now a household name. This was hands down the funniest film I saw last year, and it's completely inapropriate in every manner. I laughed so hard my ribs hurt, and I couldn't believe my ears (or eyes) at certain times. I think the reason some people don't find this film as humorous as it actually is is because they don't understand that he's playing into America's stereotypes, letting us see how ugly it really is. Genius. Highly recommended, but not for those minus a good satirical sense of humor.
